Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement after voting in favor of several bills to bolster border security.

“The number one issue I hear from my constituents is the border crisis. While President Biden possesses all the tools needed to reverse this self-inflicted disaster, strong policies cannot wait on his inaction,” said Congressman Frank Lucas. “As the House and Senate negotiate a border security package, House Republicans meanwhile delivered several meaningful measures to address the crisis at our southern border.”

BACKGROUND

The House of Representatives this week passed four border security bills:

  • H.R. 5585 – the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act – imposes criminal penalties on individuals who evade U.S. Border Patrol agents, or other federal, state, or local law enforcement officers.
  • H.R. 6678 – the Consequences for Social Security Fraud Act – creates a new ground of inadmissibility and a new ground of removability for immigrants convicted of or admitting to committing acts that constitute the essential elements of social security fraud.
  • H.R. 6679 – the No Immigration Benefits for Hamas Terrorists Act – creates a ground of inadmissibility and a ground of removability for immigrants who participated in the October 7, 2023, terror attacks.
  • H.R. 6976 – the Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act – makes immigrants who have been convicted of or who have committed an offense for driving while impaired inadmissible and deportable.
