Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2- the Moving Forward Act:

“If ever there was a time for Congress to put aside partisan politics and work together to enact thoughtful, meaningful legislation for the American people, it is now. America is currently in the middle of a pandemic, the likes of which we haven’t seen in over a century, and instead of passing an infrastructure bill that improves America’s roads and keeps us economically competitive, House Democrats and Speaker Pelosi just passed a bill that prioritizes Green New Deal requirements, widens the gap between rural and urban infrastructure, and adds restrictions for building new roads,” said Congressman Lucas.

Lucas continued, “Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, there’s no doubt about it: We must invest in America’s infrastructure system. But if we are going to be serious about fixing our roads, bridges, and waterways, we should do so with a bipartisan bill. Instead, Republicans were shut out of the process and the House will send another bill to the Senate that is dead on arrival.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, America’s producers and workforce need an infrastructure system that they can count on, one that provides immediate relief and a long-term strategy to improve our infrastructure. Sadly, the bill passed by the House today does no such thing to move us forward.”
