Oklahoma City, OK – Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement on the 26th anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Each and every April 19th- no matter the weather or busyness of our lives- Oklahoma pauses to reflect and remember what happened on the block of 5th Street between Harvey and Robinson. In a moment fueled by hate and violence, 168 innocent Oklahomans were tragically taken from this Earth too soon and countless more live with the pain of that day now 26 years later. The moment that should have defined Oklahoma with a dark past has instead inspired a great state and filled its people with a sense of community, strength, adoration- traits seen each and every day in the Oklahoma Standard. Twenty-six years to the day, I’m constantly reminded of the kindness and service our fellow Oklahomans took upon themselves to help those who were affected that day, and I remain eternally grateful for each and every person- from the first responders to now Attorney General Garland- who answered the call of service in our darkest moment. Just as I do each and every April 19th, today I pause to honor and remember the children, mothers, fathers, and neighbors who are no longer with us, because while memorials don’t take the pain away our devotion living up to their memory can help shape a better future for us all.”
