Lucas Announces $7.5 Million for Improvements to Airports in Oklahoma

Cheyenne, OK – Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) today announced that seven airports across Oklahoma’s Third District will receive a total of $7,590,308 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants for improvements to airport infrastructure. 

“Even though the coronavirus has disrupted air travel, the need to invest in our communities’ airports continues. The Third District’s airports are a valuable component of our infrastructure and an important economic development tool,” said Congressman Lucas“I’m pleased to announce that the FAA is awarding over $7.5 million to seven of our local airports, and I thank Secretary Chao and the Department of Transportation for their commitment to these facilities.”

Made through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), the grant funding, awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, has been made available through annual appropriations as well as the Coronavirus Aid Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Additionally, funds provided through the CARES Act serve as the local match for the infrastructure grants. 

A total of seven grants were awarded in Oklahoma’s Third Congressional District, amounting $7,590,308 for the following airport projects:

  • Jones Memorial Airport, Bristow, Oklahoma- $2,722,222 to reconstruct a taxiway
  • Carnegie Municipal Airport, Carnegie, Oklahoma- $266,666 to install perimeter fencing and taxiway lighting
  • Fairview Municipal Airport, Fairview, Oklahoma- $37,400 to construct a taxiway
  • Hollis Municipal Airport, Hollis, Oklahoma- $816,666 to rehabilitate an apron, taxiway and reconfigure existing taxiway
  • Ponca City Regional Airport, Ponca City, Oklahoma- $1,118,764 to rehabilitate a runway
  • Skiatook Municipal Airport, Skiatook, Oklahoma- $2,000,000 to rehabilitate a runway
  • Thomas Municipal Airport, Thomas, Oklahoma- $628,590 to construct an apron and taxiway
