Congressman Lucas Statement on Passage of House Budget
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Lucas today made the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. Con. Res. 25, The Path to Prosperity: A Responsible, Balanced Budget. The budget was approved in the House today with a 221 to 207 vote.
“I am pleased the House passed the budget today,” said Congressman Frank Lucas. “Americans are continually balancing their checkbooks and finding ways to live within their means, and it is encouraging we have passed a budget that will do the same.
“On the current path, the federal government would spend another $8.2 trillion in the next 10 years. Thankfully, our budget provides a $4.6 trillion reduction in the national debt and balances the budget over the same timeframe. This plan achieved all of these goals without any tax increases. It is obvious our country has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. I am glad this budget achieves savings by implementing common-sense spending cuts, while in-turn not taking money out of American taxpayers’ pockets.
“It is encouraging to see lawmakers working together to come up with responsible solutions to solving our nation’s debt crises. I believe this is the best plan to get our country back on the right track. It is my hope that the House budget will be passed by the Senate and sent to the President’s desk for his signature.”
