Congressman Lucas Announces Congressional Art Competition Winner
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) announced today that Gabrielle Dawes, a rising junior at Stillwater High School, is the winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for Oklahoma’s Third Congressional District.
Gabrielle’s painting, “Nature Resounding”, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a full year, along with other congressional district winners from across the nation.
“I’m thrilled that Gabrielle Dawes will represent the Third District of Oklahoma in this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” said Congressman Lucas. “I’m always amazed to see the wonderful and creative pieces of art put together by the youth of the Third District. I know I, and all my fellow Oklahomans, will look forward to seeing Gabrielle’s artwork hang in the halls of the Capitol.”
About the Congressional Art Contest
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors An Artistic Discovery, a nationwide competition for high school students interested in the arts and looking for an opportunity to showcase their creativity. The annual contest recognizes and encourages artistic talent of young constituents across the nation, including those living in Oklahoma’s Third Congressional District.
Each district winner’s artwork is displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
